Product Migration PDF Print E-mail

Our partners often have pedagogically sound and extremely engaging legacy products that once had high usage. With the advance of technology, some of these wonderful resources are now no longer in use. Given the fact that they have existing intellectual property that is educationally sound, we offer product migration services that give these products a new lease of life!

Technology Migration
A number of our partners’ products were built using technology that is now outdated - C++, Authorware, Director are but some examples. Given the fact that we have been around for nearly two decades, we have both the knowledge base of older technology as well as the agility to move these products to new technology.

Migration

Our partner, part of a large global educational publishing group, had a series of highly respected Science CDs, built nearly two decades ago, that could not be used in the classrooms any longer. We migrated the engaging courtroom drama-based CDs from Director to Flash making them meet the market demand.

Platform Migration
Some of our partners have products on CD ROMs, which now need to be moved online. Likewise some of our partners in the Higher Education space look to capture newer markets by distributing their online courses through different Learning Management Systems. In such cases, Magic offers migration of the content and courses to new platforms without affecting the efficacy of the content or course.

Migration

Our partner, a leading name in educational anatomy programs, needed to migrate their flagship product from CD-ROM to online, so as to be able to reach larger market segments. We have migrated the product and its underlying data structure.

Content Disaggregation
A number of our partners look to redistribute the assets or modules of their products as individual packs to be used in a variety of learning environments. We use tools and process flows that allow the disaggregation of content into smaller pieces and package them into SCORM compliant packs that allow redistribution via a variety of SCORM compliant LMSs or VLEs.

Migration

Recognizing Magic’s expertise in tagging and packaging, a market-leading provider of educational resources and the largest publisher for schools and colleges in the UK, selected Magic to SCORM package many of their legacy products. The project involved unbundling the contents of specified products, tagging of the content as per BECTA standards, and repackaging into Sharable Component Objects, numbering 8169, in compliance with SCORM 1.2, ensuring deployment across a variety of approved VLEs/LMSs.

Section 508 Compliance
We are mindful of the need to provide equal opportunities to learners with special needs. Therefore we practice building accessibility in our design and development. Our technology team has come up with innovative solutions that meet the needs of visually and motor impaired users. While developing new products, we consult and advise our partners to build in features that conform to Section 508. In addition, we also offer services where we make our partners’ legacy products Section 508 compliant.

Migration

Using the most innovative technology, Magic undertook a mammoth migration and development project to map a legacy application to a new environment. This made it Accessible and Section 508 compliant as well as capable of being localized into other languages. Besides design and functional enhancements, many new activities were also built into the online courseware for this leading US eLearning/training organisation that provides unique blended learning solutions, integrating media rich content from leading business experts with highly engaging, self-paced online courses and practical simulations, to deliver effective learning.

Localization
With businesses getting global, it is only natural for our partners to want to make their products available internally across both known and emerging markets. The fact that we can help localize their base product to multiple languages is reassuring for their global production plans. With as little inputs as the translated transcripts and audio files, Magic can take on localization of products to virtually any language including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew, not to mention the various Indo-European languages. Localization tasks include incorporating the text and audio changes, separating text in graphics, updating graphics to match cultural sensitivities, syncing audio with animation and so on.

Migration

Our partner, the world leader in standards-based certification solutions, needed their product-technology certification exams to be localized into various languages to reach out globally to all the continents in the world. We created their localization kits and localized their base product in English to 16 world languages.
