When, our partner, a global publishing major and a lifelong learning partner to teachers and students, approached us to develop eBooks to go with their print products, we were keen to provide our partner with unparalleled value.

eBooks are a great way for publishers to repurpose their existing IP in the form of print material to a digital format and add tools and resources that enhance the print book experience.
Foreseeing the importance of eBooks as a proactive, cost-effective solution to the current demands of higher education, our partner mandated the development of hundreds of eBooks, with hundreds of thousands of pages and millions of assets, to Magic.

After having reviewed a number of eBook requests, our usability and technology teams brainstormed to come up with a solution that helped develop bug-free, cost-effective eBooks in a turnaround time that seemed impossible to achieve.
Our team studied the various features and functionalities that were common across eBooks as well as those that were relevant to specific disciplines and imprints. We created a proprietary, platform that already had all the features built in. For each specific eBook, we would look at “switching on” the features relevant to the context. This helped us create several unique eBook series.

Magic tackled the time-consuming tasks in the eBook production process and devised solutions around automation for a large part of the development process.
Automation not only brought in benefit in the development timelines but also ensured consistent quality that did not require manual testing.
We also looked to reuse the product interface designs by easily swapping out colors and text to make individual, client-specific products.
Accessibility was built in to support users with special needs.
Finally, we ensured that our platform was scalable to meet future needs of adding new features and functionalities.

In collaboration with the publisher, Magic has in the past three years developed hundreds of eBooks and has clearly become their obvious partner of choice for development of eBooks.
